All job descriptions on this page are general in nature and broadly describe the responsibilities and duties of the position. Most positions shown here have a more detailed standard operating procedures (SOP) document that provides guidance in job performance. All gender references made herein are for brevity only and should be applied with neutrality.
President & Chief Executive OfficerThe President and CEO is the chief executive officer of the airline. He serves primarily in an oversight role of all operations, and serves as the chief strategic planner and liaison to other organizations. All functions may be delegated as necessary with the creation of appropriate postions.
Executive Vice-President & Chief Operations OfficerThe Executive Vice-President & COO is the chief operations officer of the airline. He is primarily responsible for and directs the airline's operations. He also assists the President as necessary with strategic functions. He provides direct oversight to the airline's Vice-Presidents. The Executive Vice-President is not necessarily a singular position - one of the line Vice-Presidents may hold this position simultaneously with the line position.
Vice-President of AdministrationThe VP of Administration is the chief information officer. He is primarily responsible for and directs the airline's website, forum and membership management functions. He also assists the President and EVP as necessary with strategic functions.
Vice-President of Training and EventsThe VP of Training and Events is the chief training officer. He is primarily responsible for and directs the airline's training programs and oversees events and events management. He also assists the President and EVP as necessary with strategic functions.
Vice-President of Flight OperationsThe VP of Flight Operations is the chief field officer. He is primarily responsible for and directs the airline's divisional operations, including flight schedules, terminal facilities and fleet maintenance. He also assists the President and EVP as necessary with strategic functions.
Operations ManagerThe Operations Manager works under the supervision of the Vice-President of Flight Operations. The Operations Manager serves as a mentor and guide for new(er) and returning pilots, and provides ongoing services as necessary for veteran pilots. Examples of services to new pilots would be helping them get situated within Mountain Air; following up and addressing any concerns or difficulties during their first few weeks with us; providing an initial interface between new pilots and the training department as necessary. Examples of required services to veteran pilots would be watching for and approving promotions and helping explain changes in the airline as they come online and as needed.
Dispatch ManagerThe Dispatch Manager works under the supervision of the Vice-President of Flight Operations. He is primarily responsible for keeping the flight plans updated, both for routing and for changes in the standard arrival and departure procedures as defined by the FAA. He may have one or more Dispatchers on staff.
Events ManagerThe Events Manager works under the supervision of the Vice-President of Training and Events. He is primarily responsible for and oversees the creation and scheduling of group flights and special events. He is also primarily responsible for coordinating events with the various events managers of VATSIM's ARTCCs.
Member Services ManagerThe Member Services Manager works under the supervision of the VP of Administration. He is the first point of contact for new pilots - adding new joins and issuing welcome letters. He also serves in a continuing capacity as a "help desk" for members answering whatever questions they may have, or directing them to the proper person in the case he can't immediately answer the question.
Training ManagerThe Training Manager works under the supervision of the Vice-President of Training and Events. He is primarily responsible for and oversees the development, implementation and maintenance of all written training maunals, training videos, and the online training program. He may have one or more Instructors and/or Editors on staff.
Assistant Operations ManagerThe Assistant Opertions Managers work under the supervision of the Operations Manager. The assistant managers assist the managers in all duties as assigned. DispatcherDispatchers work under the supervision of the Dispatch Manager. Dispatchers review suggested flightplans submitted by our pilots and correct and update the flightplans as appropriate following established guidelines for valid flightplans. Dispatchers may also assist in reviewing and updating all flightplans within a specified region on a rotating schedule as determined by the dispatch manager. Group Flight CoordinatorThe Group Flight Coordinator works under the supervision of the Events Manager. He creates and schedules official normal group flights, communicates such events as appropriate, and coordinates with the various events staff of VATSIM's ARTCCs when needed. Special Events CoordinatorThe Special Events Coordinator works under the supervision of the Events Manager. He creates and schedules approved special events, communicates such events as appropriate, and coordinates with the various events staff of VATSIM's ARTCCs as needed. Fleet PainterFleet Painters work under the supervision of the Fleet Maintenance Manager. Painters paint our fleet in accordance with current standards and specifications. Training EditorTraining Editors work under the supervision of the Training Manager. Editors assist in the creation of new written training material and help update current material to make sure it is kept current. Training InstructorTraining Instructors work under the supervision of the Training Manager. Instructors follow established guidelines and curriculum to provide real-time, one-to-one instruction. |
